I remove the inlet filter from the carb, because it's just too small, and use an inline filter from a newer fuel-injected engine. The housing is metal, the mesh is finer, and the capacity is so large you'll never have flow problems and it will last almost forever. Just look for something with inlet and outlet approx. the size of your fuel line.
