When I'm doing an engine; I forget about the crap at work, I forget about bills, etc.
My total concentration is getting it put together the right way. I forget about all my other problems when I got that block on the engine stand.
The only engine failure I've ever had was, once, when I ran short of money, I reused a set of rods, without having them checked. One of them failed!
Since you are this deep into it, don't scrimp.
