I don't think you can get a 4.5" crank in a factory 9.8" deck BBC.

I would pull a cap or two to make sure the bearings are good and put a new distributor gear on - or swap to another distributor completly. Also not all roller cams (solid or hydraulic) require a bronze or compsosite gear but you will have to figure out which one you need.

Someone also mentioned you need a cam button - yes you do because you have to limmit the cam movement so make sure you have that as well - also check the cam gear - it's probably damaged as well.
