Custom 1987 GMC Crew Cab Short Bed

Here are the photos of my 55 GMC 4X4 front leaf spring mounts.

The previous owner welded the stock spring mounts off a 1979 Chevy 1/2 ton truck to the 55' frame rails. He set the axle center line to far back (If he meassured it at all, and as a result, the tire was hitting the back of the fender, and had miles of clearance in front of the tire.

I think my mounts look better

After cutting the old mounts off with a plasma, I finished surface prep with a grinding wheel, and finally a 5" sander.

Bumper nuts were welded to the inside of the chassis. I will be bolting the bumper brackets to the outside of the frame rails.

Drilled out the bottom of the chassis in two places using a 3/4" drill bit, where the new mounts were welded. This aloud me to weld directly to the new mounts (Through the chassis holes), and as the whole filled in with the weld puddle, it penetrated the chassis (Outer edge of drilled holes), this gave the mounts additional holding strenght.

The mounts were made of 1/4" wall, 4X4" box tubing...

The rain has kept me from the crew cab, but not the 55' (It's in the shop)!
