If you do not plan on going real low, the stock truck pan will work fine. Depending on the mounts you use, it will hang anywhere from about an inch to 2" below the cross member.

GM make a swap kit that is about an inch shorter than the truck pan.

It seems the ideal pan is a F-body pan. When swapping to anything other than what is on the engine already, you will also need the windage tray and dip stick and tube at a minimum.

FWIW, I am running a stock 5.3 truck pan that was on the engine. The front is lowered about 2" and I haven't had any clearance issues. The biggest thing you need to figure out is how low you plan on dropping the front end, if any.
