Windshield wiper issues - help

Hey All,

I have noticed a problem with the windshiled wipers on the Blazer. Most of the time they work just fine, but on occasion, they will not turn on when I turn the switch on the steering column.

When they DON'T come on, I can hear a low growling-type sound, as if the motor is trying to move but being held back. This will occur for both pulse and full-on switch settings. Sometimes, after driving a while, trying the switch will then work, and sometimes, the same condition continues each time I try to turn them on.

And possibly related, there are times that I have them running in the pulse mode, and the speed varies all over the place. They will sometimes do 3 or 4 passes at 'high' speed, and then return to the interval set. Or sometimes they will run at interval, and then not make a pass for a couple minutes, and then pick the interval back up.

I've seen that the local O'Reilly Auto sells a control board, to replace a defective one, which seems as if it's not uncommon. Do these symptoms sound like something that swapping out this control board, would cure?

I've been using Rain-X pretty heavily in the mean-time, and have found that tobe very effective with the rain. But snow and road slop season is not far away, and I'm going to need reliable operation from my wipers for that. I'd appreciate any knowledge or experience that youcan share! Thanks!
