Re: "Disc to Drum" Conversion Threads,...

I'm not sure what GM had on there mind when they went to disc brakes in 1971.
In 1972 the trucks had the same parts.
BUT,... in the '73 model year they changed things for some unknown reason.

I understand going to rubber bushed a-arms.
But why did they change the upper balljoint and not the lower ball joint?
Why did all the tie rods change?
Did the centerlink and all the associated tie rods of the 71-72 truck fail?
No.
New supplier of parts? Who knows.

So now,... the 71-72 parts are really the "odd ball" disc brake parts.
Most auto parts stores don't stock the "2-year only" parts.
The 73-87 parts are almost always in stock.

So if you could eliminate the all 71-72 parts from the mix,... it would make things easier.
But, since the 71-72 trucks are my personal favorites,... I'm glad you can still get restoration parts for these trucks' suspension and brake systems.

The most important thing I would like to get from this thread,... is to find "FAQ worthy" threads that will help us all.

Any one have other suggestions to make this topic easier to understand?
