My wood came from Mar-K but I used Bruce Horkey's Spar varnish kit. It costs $85 and comes with instructions and supplies (varnish, thinner, paper, tack cloths, ect). The kit comes with sponge brushes but I decided to use bristle type. They just felt better. I sanded with sand paper between the first couple coats then switch to green scotchbrite pads for the remaining coats. They lasted longer than the sand paper. I highly suggest getting the kit. The provided instructions are very detailed and remove all the guess work. My pecan stain came from Lowes.
MAKE SURE TO USE A MASK WHEN SANDING. My first day sanding I didn't use one and I had bronchitis for the next 4 days. I didn't make that mistake again.
