An iPod alone is a bad idea, but it would work in a pinch. You are better off getting a $100 pioneer deck with USB and plug it in, or get a $20 line driver to up the output of the headphone jack before sending it to the amp. The deck gives you the option of CD's.
Since you are running multiple amps, you would want an active crossover anyway.
