I wired up an automotive 30 amp solenoid to engage the glow plug solenoid. My push button engages the 30 amp solenoid which then engages the glow plug solenoid. The glow plug solenoid is bolted to the inner side of the drivers side fender.

If you do this, you want glow plugs that won't burn up with extended time.

Glow plug controllers are expensive and when they do go out, you're pretty much stuck.
