Well after doing the steering box bracing on the 88 burb, I had an idea. I just basically put a plate on the out side of the frame, one on top and one on the bottom. This is almost like a sleeve around the stock frame. It added more lip to the areas where I cut out. I welded it all on and included the front cross member in to it via 2 bolt holes. The brace goes past the engine cross member area, so it should be stout.
