all kinds of tricks- but the subject is a bit broad...

most of the time a few basic cleaners will work. the following will get you started for your truck:
- soap and hot water for general cleanup
- diesel as a "bug and tar" remover
- simple green is good stuff
- home-made glass cleaner of vinegar and water with newspaper to polish
the glass.
- 0000 steel wool for chrome and stainless
- as mentioned- WD40 has a million uses- it works for sticker residue, grease spots, etc. and once you clean up the engine compartment you can spray it down w/ WD for a nice shine.
- a can of rubbing compound
- and a bottle of good wax.

Keep the above handy and you can have a decent looking anything!
