Glad you asked that.
This will be stronger than an overlap because the insides are gusseted, and the inside along the top of the frame rail is welded also - an area that you wouldn't be able to access if the kit was welded on as an assembled kit. I'll post pictures later that show the additional measures Kyle took as he put it together. Believe me, it's plenty stout. Certainly more stout than bolt on notches, which I've not seen fail and they're very popular.

This truck won't be hauling around engine blocks, but it is going to carve some corners. Show and go I guess you might say.
