I had mine done in the flat black knowing I would likely opt for painting them as well to obtain a closer match to the color of my other parts within the engine compartment. I used a mild red Scotchbrite pad w/some Simple Green to clean & scuff the arms for painting. I easily cut through the majority of the edges w/minimal pressure just trying for a consistent surface. I definitely wasn't aggressive & the SB pad was not a new pad....

Still irritated but I've taken a nap and time to move on just need to figure where to place these tabs, weld and paint.
