Any engine that you cannot test while running, do a leakdown and compression test on is worth about $250, which is the scrap price for cast iron.
The motor as a product is fine, and would be good for your truck. I just think the whole deal looks a little shaky.
Don't rush. The motor's not going anywhere in a hurry.
