He offered to switch, not to give me the shorter one.
"Rare" isn't always the same as "Desirable."
For my purposes (family of three and a dog, hauling the kid and his buddies, etc.) the full-width rear seat was preferable.
He had two kids, and was hauling them around on the short middle.
