Well you can look at them at see that the wire wound ones would be easier to damage or go bad.. So I'm in agreement with you I think the porcelain are much better. Maybe the different colors denote different ohms.. I'm not sure on that.
The cluster I'm restoring had the porcelain ones, but some of my parts clusters had the wire wound versions.. I put the porcelains back on.
