No harm in doing it after. It is definitely better to do it after then not at all.

You might try hooking up a hose to you inlet heater hose and let it flow through the outlet hose. Not sure if it will work, but it might be worth a try. I'd leave your heater hoses connected to the core so it doesn't drip inside your cab.
