I'm not sure about these years of trucks, but I remember reading years ago that for a V-6 or V-8 Vega conversion, you could swap a resistor on the back of a stock tach to do the 4/6/8 conversion. GM has a lot of standardization, so maybe the same rule applies, but I'm not positive.
Maybe a moot point depending on how tempted you are to put in that LS. ;-)
