The bed of my '65 was primered Black, so I wet sanded (don't remember the grit) it all off and was happy with the dull finish of the paint below the primer. In doing so, I sanded through some of the paint (by accident) to the primer beneath that. I need to sand some more and even out the primer spots to give a more realistic look, but I am very happy with the results so far. I'd say to wet sand an area of the Black primer and you may be very please with what you find. Here you can see how the bed looks like faded paint, but the tailgate and cab still have a gloss. When I get around to it, the entire truck will have a uniform faded appearance.
