I did the same thing this weekend (I used Tri-Flow) on my newly acquired 72 K20. I went from a truck with what I thought was a blown TH400 to one that drove fine. I figured old grease and 8 years of accumulated dirt from sitting without being driven. A 30 second fix!
A cheap fix and again, worth a try.
