That's normal.
In the stock application the L6 studs work OK. If you're hanging headers, you'll want to back out the studs with a big ViceGrips turning counterclockwise. Then you have some nice bores 3/8-16 x <1" deep. Threaded studs 3/8-16 UNC on one end, and 3/8-24 on the other work real good to hold the header ends down.
