I have maybe $50 into my actual Z. I have another $275 into my steering. You could do the steering for cheaper if you have a 1/2 ton (you can use the steering linkage out of an Astro Van). If you are going to remain static with a 1.5 inch Z you might not even need to change the steering at all.

I ended up going with a 4 inch Z (and 2 inch SFBD). I don't think there is any other way you can get 4 inches of drop for $325. Of course I didn't factor time into that though.
