To change from drum to disc brakes you need to remove the backing plate for the drum brake setup. It will not fit over the axle flange. It's a bit easier to just remove the axles but you might be able to cut the backing plate off with a 3 in grinder and a cut-off wheel. It's a forging, though, so expect a tough job. Once that is done, the CPP disc kit bolts tight on. No need to remove the axles to get it assembled correctly once the backing plate has been removed..
