How about a OEM hei ? You can fit the better aftermarket parts into it and curve it too.
I have an L29 on the stand but no need yet to tear it down, they do have 99cc heads and 9-1 comp stock.
If the intake is poor flowing and the exhaust flows well, that may mean that a single pattern cam works best, especially for low-end and mid-range power & mileage. Interested in what Mr Straub will spec !
