My 4wd one is different. Rods are heavier and shifter is offset a bit more, probably to give clearance to the t-case shifter.
Note that the shifter mounts on the tail extension on 2wd and on the t-case adaptor on the 4x4. Not sure if they are the exact same pattern and place fore / aft and crosscar. I believe the shifter itself is the same, just brackets and rods are different.
Again we need to understand, these are LIGHT DUTY trans. They are NOT Hemi 833's . The gear swap resulted in overdrive, but the price is much lower torque capacity. GM never used them on anything more powerful that the 305, think ~200hp and 300ft-lb max.
The iron case was used in the GM 4wd and it appears that the 2wd guts could be installed into it (output shafts have different lengths and splines). That helps the case wear issue but not the torque capacity.
