My truck will always be sitting in the garage waiting for me, but my kids won't be young forever. I try to work on stuff for an hour or two after everyone is asleep 2-3 times a week and that satisfies me enough. My kids are 2 and 4 now and they do love playing in the truck and even helping out occasionally, so sometimes I sneak in extra time on the truck if they are interested.
