I have done the swap with stock components and it wasn't that hard.
I am also tinkering with the Idea of installing an evaporator into the heater core opening as I think you are trying to do.
I just haven't come up with a good idea for the vents.
My 2000 Toyota Echo evaporator is almost the right size but a few inches too deep. Also not sure how to mount it in the box yet. Kind of a hair brain scheme as I was just standing there wondering if I should just get rid of all this junk.
I already have all this stuff left over from replacing everything in my wife's beater.
Her compressor gave up due to a impeller breaking. So I thought Hey why not stick it all in my Cheap build Blazer "No Daggum Money" build and boom Ice Cold air for almost nothing.
