It only occurred in crossed up situations, such as when trying to climb diagonally out of very deep ruts in a logging road and the steering turned to full lock. The running boards are the problem, and without them intruding into the fender area I doubt I'd have ever had a tire touch the original fenders. I too have run 33's on a stock suspension (but not this suburban) with the exact same results - a little bit of rubbing in crossed-up situations that could easily be addressed with modest fender trimming or narrower tires such as a 255-85-16. Some rigs can run 33's with no drama, and others can't. I've become convinced over time that the primary difference is due more to worn out and collapsed body mounts than worn out springs.
