Makes a lot of sense. Using a hook to apply pressure to the cable seems like it belongs on a Ford tractor.
Don't worry about the color until after you've gotten along in the project. I'll bet it comes to you.

Cool pulley. I know the layout, though haven't visited the brake drum yet. It's this piece that gave me trouble. I don't know how it detaches from the frame.
