Normally I agree with your thoughts on a roll pan. On your stepside bed it actually gives a finished look. I have always hated the way the factory didnt really finish off the stepside bed.

If your concerned about the bolts in the tailgate, consider adding bolts with billet washer. Maybe paint to match, or polish.
