'58-'59 have different hinges than my '55.2 but on mine I think I remember that additional body shims under the lower of the two hinges mount holes made the rear of the hood sit down lower.
Not sure if this helps but since I'm apparently "REEEL OLLLD" I may be so senile and lame that I don't remember properly!
