The N/W US and other northern areas seemed to have the most old 4wds. Farther down the west coast and into the S/W they had a lot, as well. Mostly for recreation. Mountainous regions saw ranchers using them...then the recreational ones. It was fairly rare to have a 4wd for daily use around here in the mid-70s when I first drove them, which was just before the 4wd thing exploded onto the market
