You don't say what engine/trans you have but also check the trans modulator to make sure it is good, and check the vacuum lines going to it for leaks. If there is a leak in the vacuum line to the modulator or vacuum is low it will kill the engine when you put it in gear. Mine only did it in reverse.
Where is the vacuum line to the modulator connected on the manifold?
