Hmm, you could have a point there John. Think I'll speak to one of my colleagues in our UPS division he should be able to advise me the risk as they fit battery systems all day long.
Now I am using sealed batteries, but I have to assume (as I dont really know that much about batteries) they still have to vent in some way but equally id assume they only vent under extreme charging otherwise you would need to top them up and they would no longer be sealed.
Also, I do drive a Land Rover and have owned others, which have the batteries in the cab straight from the factory and one of them being a 79 Lighweight would likely have a non sealed battery originally.
Definitely worth some investigation though.
