Sadly, my German is rusty. Mom made us learn it, but in the South, we were kind of shunned for speaking it, especially in the 80s when Hollywood started brainwashing everyone into believing all Germans were Nazis.
My America grandfather welcomed my mother with open arms, even though he fought in both the European and Pacific theaters in WWII (only 2 US divisions served in both theaters and only 1 saw combat in both)
The Midwest (Illinois, Iowa etc) has a large German population, and areas in S. Texas. There is the community of Roberts Cove in Louisiana, and the town of Helen Georgia, but those only places off the top of my head that I can think off.
