I've had good results with many scenarios, both enclosed and open, professional and home-made. Weather and wind are the unpredictable factors in outdoor jobs. Bugs too if there are a bunch in your area.
Then comes the most threatening obstacle of all, neighbors. By far. Complaints about smells, environmental concerns, health issues, etc., not to mention paint drift. Oh my word on paint drift and overspray on their cars and stuff. The problem list can get out of hand fast if you have the wrong neighbor.
I say rent a booth if at all possible, and avoid most all that.
But having said that, if you live in the country and have the space, and the people next door are not insane and they love you, it's quite possible to get it done right, right there in your driveway.
