I made it 28 years before my wife decided she'd be happier alone than with me. She got the house, I got my retirement, we're still friends (I hope).
The person you decide to marry has to be your friend first, because you're going to go through some real crap together - especially the first couple years.
If you can work things out, do so. It's better than being alone.
