I've never had any luck with a "generic" aka universal switch staying in place in my 48. I put one in in the 70's and it would always come loose in the hole. That was a parts house unit that had a smaller diameter though.

I never had an issue with a push button to start the truck and in a lot of respects it is a safety item. Personally I like the idea of a hidden start button even if it is connected to the key switch start wire.
