This one should also go in the ''DOH!'' File: after losing the proper screw, when replacing a fresh copper/brass heater core, I used 1'' black drywall screws. Yes, they engaged the mounting holes in the OEM wire support brackets, but the point of one of the screws pierced the wall of the core, and I had to change it out again.
The next time, I got fancy and used extra-long machine screws coming from the inside -- so the stud ends protruded from the heater box, and secured them with nuts on the outside...
The other heater core should be a simple brazing fix.
