I did
that job back on the other end of my working life. They actually offered to train me to work in the machine shop (mainly turning brake drums/rotors) but being young and stupid I turned it down because I didn't want to be stuck in that little room all day. I wanted to be out and see the sunshine.
There's lots of low-key jobs that I probably wouldn't mind doing these days, but the trouble is driving at least 60 miles one way to work. I have thought of either asking for a full day once or twice a week, or else asking about sacking at the grocery store in the county seat only about 25 miles away...
