On the quadrajet, I would at the very least do a light rebuild with a new accelerator pump and gasket kit. You can get as basic or as complicated as you want with the rebuilds. The ethanol fuel really does a number on those old pumps and the newer pumps are made from a better material. I use cliffshighperformance.com for my rebuilds. Check out their SR rebuild kit.
