Don't feel bad, back when I was young, I would swap motors, bell housings and trannies in my Camaros & truck, seems like once a month. Just grab a bell housing that fit the flywheel size and slap it together. Probably why I would have terrible "clutch problems" every once in a while. Never knew about the bell hole till way later, would have saved a lot of money and time. You should put a new pilot bearing in while its apart, might have gotten wallowed out. Glad you found the issue.
