The flat connector is what the new switches come with. It’s the style GM changed to in 70-something.
New switches come with the adapter so they’re compatible with the old style.
That flat connector has to be de-pinned just like the half moon one.

If you find that you have to replace your switch, buy the non-tilt version and just swap over the shift indicator bulb housing. The mounting tab is there on all the switches. It’s the same part otherwise.

MAC; nice pin tool. That’s way cheaper than the tool truck version.
