On my old stuff (OE wood) the rounded edge touches. I believe most 'new' pre-cut wood doesn't. I recall Mar-k providing dimensions for those attempting to cut their own that gave a range of depth for the groove depending on how 'high' off the wood you wanted the strips.
Point being... I imagine it depends on the manufacturer, age, &/or personal likes.
