The Trading Post was there (started in the 1940s by my friend's dad).
The reservoir was built in the 1930s.
The road was dirt from about Almont onward. Just one lane most places. Around the dam it was very narrow with a few pull outs for passing. It was that way until I think the spring of 1977* when the county widened it out in a few places. Then in the mid-1980s they blasted it all out real wide and paved it up to the Cottonwood turnoff, bypassing the Trading Post. Before that the road went right through their parking lot, and the gas pumps were right in front of the (old) Nugget Cafe. Many times I drove my logging truck through there.
