These places are good spot, but not fused. The power feed wire to the block has a fusible link so the box as a whole is protected , but not fused at each slot & therefore needs an inline fuse when adding into these extra slots... at least that's how I've always understood it - please correct me if wrong!

It’s a wise idea to install over-current protection on the choke circuit. AKA a
fuse.
