I use the SPI products and after blasting, I have usually used 80 grit on a DA to remove some/most of the roughness, only where it was really easy to do so. I do use a 3 inch in places the 6 inch won't work.

I have then flooded it with the SPI 700 water based cleaner and wiped where I could without getting the rag snagged on the rough surface and flooded the rough areas with more cleaner and blown dry. Then spray the SPI Epoxy. Haven't had a problem yet.
