I may have found your issue on fit. While looking thru the Factory Assembly Instruction Manual, I came upon the steering column install. It seems the "Selector Plate Gate and Lever" at the bottom of your column is, well, adjustable within the steering jacket. that leads me to believe if one does nothing with it, your column may not line up as in your example.
