The tangs, flats in the case of a 4L60, engage last.
The way to confirm is mark the location of the flats on the case.
Get the converter in as far as possible when rotating it.
Then pull the converter and see if the flats on the pump have moved.

It is very difficult to see where the "O" ring seals as it is in the very back of the converter.

Did you inspect the splines?
